Jingle Bells: A Hockey Mom Version

Written by Emily Erson

Normally, it’s cowbells you think of when you think about hockey moms.  But, since it’s the holiday season, I thought it might be fun to revise the classic “Jingle Bells” to give it a hockey mom theme.

Rushing to the rink
In a jam-packed SUV,
Gotta hurry up
Ice time isn’t free
The kids are getting mad
And I am feeling strife,
What fun it is to rush around
Living the hockey life.

Oh, hockey mom, hockey mom,
Rushing everywhere.
Wonder why they compare us to
A raging grizzly bear?
Hockey mom, hockey mom
Always off somewhere.
Last week it was Pittsburgh,
And, now it’s Delaware.

A few short years ago,
My kid was playing Mite.
We’d always play close to home,
And come home every night.
Then he moved on up,
And things began to change.
There we got a good hard look,
At normal travel range.

Oh, hockey mom, hockey mom,
Rushing everywhere.
Wonder why they compare us to
A raging grizzly bear?
Hockey mom, hockey mom,
This travel’s such a strain.
Last week it was Flordia,
And, now we’re off to Maine.

The years they go fast,
How quickly time does pass.
The bill is getting bigger,
And I’m using much more gas.
But, this game is worth it all,
I don’t regret a dime.
In fact, I can honestly say
It’s well-spent family time.

Oh, hockey mom, hockey mom,
Rushing everywhere.
Wonder why they compare us to
A raging grizzly bear?
Hockey mom, hockey mom,
Here’s my scenario.
Last week it was Toronto,
And today, Ontario.

Pee Wee came and went,
To Bantam, we will trek.
This year’s a new experience,
With a welcomed body check.
The hitting changed the game,
Which made the tempers flare.
There are angry kids with sticks,
Hitting everywhere.

Oh, hockey mom, hockey mom,
Rushing everywhere.
Wonder why they compare us to
A raging grizzly bear?
Hockey mom, hockey mom,
We’re heading for the door.
Last week it was Long Island
Next up the Jersey Shore.

They say that hockey’s life,
To some, this is so true.
Cuz running from rink to rink
Is all we really do.
But, do not get me wrong,
It’s a life I want to lead.
Because we know the game offers you
Life lessons to succeed.

Oh, hockey mom, hockey mom
Rushing everywhere.
Wonder why they compare us to
A raging grizzly bear?
Hockey mom, hockey mom
I hope this never ends.
But, when it does we all will know,
We’ve made the best of friends!
